The new house on Pilatusplatz has the potential to provide a broad impulse for the development of the surrounding area. On the one hand, the front-end building completes the sensitive empty space on the block edge of the Bruchquartier; on the other hand, it can develop a radiance at an essential point in Lucerne’s urban and traffic system, from which the immediate surroundings benefit as much as the entire urban fabric. The proposed project is aimed at a tall house on the square with a strong character and a great visibility. The solitaire is flanked and integrated by the two side wings, which in their cubature seek to close ranks with the grown block edges. On the ground floor, the public space flows between the strong columns under the protective canopy. The now enclosed courtyard with its historic timber-framed houses is connected to the central events not only at the edges but also centrally via the arcade.<\/p>\n

With its concrete grid structure, the house on Pilatusplatz paints a crystalline picture whose rhythm is determined by the spans of the supporting structure. The sandblasted, yellow-greenish precast concrete elements reflect the colour spectrum between the Hotel Anker and the buildings on Pilatusstrasse. The steep roof connects to the lively dormer and tower landscape of the surroundings and integrates the attic storey into the shape of the building. The noise protection glazing forms a second, undulating layer within the static grid.<\/p>\n
