To look at the past means to see it with our present eyes. Also the view into the future is inevitably shaped by our previous experiences, as well as by hopes and fears, the origin of which lies in our current perception of the world. In addition to the exploration of old buildings, utopian and dystopian ideas have repeatedly found their place in the description of architecture. Piranesi, Hugh Ferriss or Brodsky are only a few of the common names standing in this tradition and whose hypothetical renderings sparked the debate.
\nOn the occasion of the 1000-year anniversary of the Basel Minster, we would like to sharpen our view of the minster and our perception of monuments in general with an exhibition in urban space. The completely fictitious question that we have been preparing for the exhibition since December 2018 has received an unexpected topicality with the fire of Notre Dame in Paris, which remarkably illustrates the fragility of such precious treasures.<\/p>\n
