As a remarkable ensemble of buildings, the Spenglerpark not only characterises its immediate surroundings. The former company headquarters is also perceived as an important landmark even in the greater surrounding area. Building A, built in 1971 as the first block in the ensemble, marks the transition from the industrial zone to the Lange Heid residential area. The building, with its undulating, broken ribbons of concrete, provides a strong facade theme.<\/p>\n

The project proposes to restore the lost rhythm of the fa\u00e7ade without simply reconstructing the former elements. With the accentuated combination of four window axes each, the fa\u00e7ade is transferred from the monotonous band structure into a structured entity – without any intervention on the load bearing concrete elements.<\/p>\n

The resulting groups of four display the skeleton of the building to the outside and also provide the structure for the two new atriums. The courtyards extend the green space of the park into the building and form distinct points of orientation around which new recreation or learning areas are grouped.<\/p>\n

The newly constructed residential floors are united with the partition walls to form a volume. In the upper floors the characteristic concrete fa\u00e7ade finds its contemporary counterpart in the continuous cladding of corrugated sheet metal. The sun protection is covered by protruding corrugated sheet metal roofs. This gives the house a “textile” component which also contributes to strengthening the reestablished rhythm.<\/p>\n
